Groote Schuur Private Hospital visiting hours are structured to balance patient recovery with family support. Unless otherwise specified, general visiting hours are:
- 15:00 – 16:00
- 19:00 – 20:00
These times apply daily, including weekends and public holidays, with a maximum of three visitors allowed per patient in general wards at a time[1][2][3]. Children are permitted if accompanied by an adult, but most wards restrict visits for children under 12 unless they are a direct sibling or child of the patient[3].
Specialised and restricted ward visiting hours:
- Intensive Care Units (ICU):
- 11:00 – 12:00
- 15:00 – 16:00
- 19:00 – 20:00
- Maximum two visitors per patient per session
- D13 ICU:
- 10:00 – 11:00
- 14:00 – 15:00
- 19:00 – 20:00
- Maternity Wards:
- 15:30 – 16:30
- 19:00 – 20:00
- Only the baby’s father, one significant companion, and siblings over the age of two are allowed
- Labour Ward:
- One person at a time (either the birth companion or father)
- Mother of the patient may visit on the post-natal side
- Neonatal Unit:
- Only parents and grandparents may visit (up to two visitors per neonate)
- Parents are allowed any time until 21:00 (24-hour access in serious cases)
- Grandparents can visit during regular hours
- Psychiatry Wards:
- Visits must be prearranged with the Sister-in-Charge
- Ward G22: 19:00 – 20:00, Monday to Thursday only
- Wards C22 and C23: No visiting unless arranged in advance
If you wish to visit outside of these hours, or the patient is critically ill, arrangements must be made with the relevant ward supervisor[2][3].
