State Hospital Visiting Hours

Hospital visiting hours vary by facility and patient type. Below is an overview from several state hospitals and medical centers, including specific hours, restrictions, and guidelines as noted:

  • DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital: All visits must be scheduled in advance. There is no walk-in visitation.
    • Penal Code Patients (Secured Treatment Area Physical Visit): Tuesday, Friday, Saturday: 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30.
      Sunday Physical Visit: 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 13:30.
      Tele Visit: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30.
      Sunday Tele Visit: 14:30, 15:30.
    • Lanterman Petris Short (LPS 5358) Patients: Physical visit: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 13:30–16:30; Saturday and Sunday: 10:30–11:30.
      Tele Visit: Monday and Friday: 13:30–16:00.
    • Visitor attire is strictly regulated; khaki, camouflage, officer/patient-like garments, provocative/offensive clothing, high heels, open-toed shoes, wigs (without prior approval), scarves, hats, bandanas, gloves, athletic jerseys are not permitted.
  • Washington State Hospital: Visiting hours may vary with each program, but are generally from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Guests are advised not to visit during treatment activities (9–11 a.m. and 1–3 p.m.) and must sign in at the nurse’s station. Specific restrictions may apply to individual patients[6].
  • Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center: Visiting hours are every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.[3]
  • Baystate Health: Daily visiting hours are held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Limit of three visitors at one time. Designated support persons may visit 24/7. Some units, including psychiatric, may have further restrictions. Masks are encouraged[4].
