The U.S. Capitol Rotunda is accessible to the public as part of guided tours that begin and end at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. The Visitor Center is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is closed on Sundays as well as Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Inauguration Day[1][2][3][4][5]. Tour reservations are strongly recommended and can be made online. The last tour of the day typically starts around 3:20 p.m., and all visitors should allow extra time for security screening[2].
The Rotunda may have special public visiting hours when hosting significant ceremonial events, such as lying-in-state, during which it could be open outside normal hours; these times are announced separately as events arise[8].
