Mediclinic Hospital Visiting Hours
Hospital groupLast verified 13 September 2026
Mediclinic visiting hours follow a group-wide “managed flexible visiting” guideline: Mediclinic Southern Africa lists visiting from 09:00–20:00 with a resting period from 13:00–15:00. Individual hospitals can change the times, visitor numbers and ICU rules, so always check the hospital you are visiting. Find your Mediclinic hospital below, or return to the private hospital visiting hours directory.
Choose a Mediclinic hospital to see facility-specific visiting information. Ask at the nurses’ station on arrival to confirm the patient can receive visitors.
Find a Mediclinic Hospital
Search by hospital name or town. Mediclinic uses local names for some hospitals, so the name on the building may differ from the town: Mediclinic Limpopo is in Polokwane, Mediclinic Hoogland is in Bethlehem, Mediclinic Emfuleni is in Vanderbijlpark and Mediclinic Victoria is in Tongaat. The full list by province is under Hospital Locations below.

General Visitor Policy
Mediclinic Southern Africa’s patient information page sets out these general visiting hours at Mediclinic hospitals:
| Area | Group guideline |
|---|---|
| General units | Managed flexible visiting 09:00–20:00, resting period 13:00–15:00; two visitors per bed |
| Critical care units | Two visitors per bed |
| Day procedure patients | One accompanying person |
Mediclinic says there may be times when visitors cannot be accommodated, and that visitor numbers and hours can change at hospital level. When we checked the hospitals’ own “Stay and Visit” pages, most listed three visitors per bed in general wards, while Mediclinic George, Hermanus, Muelmed, Nelspruit, Louis Leipoldt and Panorama listed two. Mediclinic Nelspruit lists its resting period as 14:00–16:00 rather than 13:00–15:00. Where the group page and a hospital page differ, follow the hospital page and confirm with the ward.
ICU, Maternity & Special Unit Visits
ICU and high care
Most Mediclinic hospital pages we checked list Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Care visiting from 11:00–20:00, with two visitors per bed. There are exceptions: Mediclinic Morningside lists ICU and high care visiting from 09:00–20:00, Mediclinic Paarl from 10:00–20:00, and Mediclinic Hermanus from 11:00–20:00 with a resting period from 13:00–15:00. Visitors may be asked to leave the bedside during procedures. More detail is in our ICU visiting hours and high care visiting hours guides.
Maternity
For Mediclinic maternity visiting, the group policy says a partner accompanying an obstetric patient may board with her if facilities are available. Otherwise the partner may visit each day, with other children, for an unlimited time. See our maternity ward visiting hours guide.
Paediatrics and NICU
Mediclinic regards a paediatric patient and one parent as a single unit, and says most of its hospitals can accommodate one parent on a sleeper couch (ask about availability and costs). Mediclinic Panorama allows one parent at the bedside 24 hours a day. Mediclinic Medforum and Mediclinic Muelmed say they have no beds for overnight parents, only a limited number of folding sofas, and ask parents to bring their own linen. We found no group-wide NICU visiting times; Mediclinic Hermanus notes that its critical care visitor limit does not apply to NICU. Phone the unit first, and see our NICU visiting hours guide.
Mental health facilities
Mental health units have their own times. Mediclinic Denmar Mental Health in Pretoria lists visiting Monday to Friday 16:00–18:00. Mediclinic Muelmed asks visitors to its Neuro and Spinal Rehabilitation Unit to contact the unit for visiting arrangements.
Weekend & Public Holiday Visiting
Mediclinic’s group guideline and the acute hospital “Stay and Visit” pages we checked give one set of visiting hours with no separate weekend or public holiday times. The exception we found is Mediclinic Denmar Mental Health, which lists Saturday, Sunday and public holiday visiting from 14:00–16:00. A missing weekend note is not a guarantee, so phone ahead over long weekends and festive periods. Our weekend hospital visiting hours guide has more tips.

Visitor Rules
Rules repeated on Mediclinic’s group and hospital pages:
- Check in at the nurses’ station to confirm the patient can receive visitors.
- Keep to the visitor limit per bed for that unit, out of respect for other patients in the room.
- Step out when asked, for example when doctors share a diagnosis or a procedure is being carried out.
- Keep noise down: put your phone on silent and keep volume to a minimum.
- Supervise children who come with you. We found no group-wide minimum age for visitors, so ask before bringing young children into ICU, NICU or high care.
- Flowers: Mediclinic does not publish a group rule on flowers, although some hospitals, such as Mediclinic Highveld and Mediclinic Sandton, sell them on site. Check with the ward first, especially for critical care.
Read our general hospital visitor rules guide for a full checklist.
How to Confirm Current Visiting Hours
- Open the hospital’s “Stay and Visit” page on mediclinic.co.za. Mediclinic itself recommends this, because times and visitor numbers can differ between hospitals and units.
- Ignore older COVID-19 notices. Some archived Mediclinic pages still describe screening, masks and restricted visiting. Use the current hospital page instead.
- Phone the hospital using the number on its official Mediclinic page before visiting ICU, NICU, maternity, paediatrics or a mental health unit.
- Ask the unit manager on arrival if the patient’s condition means visits are limited.
Plan your visit: choose a Mediclinic hospital below to see facility-specific visiting information, or read the visitor rules guide.
