Intercare Hospital Visiting Hours

Intercare visiting hours only apply to the group’s inpatient facilities. Most Intercare sites are medical and dental centres, and its day hospitals discharge patients the same day. Visiting matters mainly at Intercare’s physical rehabilitation hospitals, where the group says visiting hours are set per facility. Find an Intercare Hospital

Intercare’s website groups its services into medical and dental centres, day hospitals, physical rehabilitation hospitals and Intercare Medfem Hospital. Several sites combine more than one service. The facilities that admit patients are:

• Physical rehabilitation hospitals: Intercare Hazeldean, Intercare Irene and Intercare Sandton (Gauteng); Intercare Newlands, Intercare Somerset West and Intercare Tyger Valley (Western Cape).
• Day hospitals: Intercare Century City (Western Cape); Intercare Hazeldean, Intercare Irene and Intercare Sandton (Gauteng).
• Women’s health hospital: Intercare Medfem Hospital, Bryanston, Sandton (Gauteng).

General Visitor Policy

Intercare’s physical rehabilitation hospitals page describes the visiting approach as flexible visiting hours per facility. Family and friends are welcome, but therapy and medical procedures take priority. The patient’s appointed next of kin or family spokesperson is treated as part of the care programme and is encouraged to speak with the interdisciplinary team during visiting hours for feedback on progress.

Only two facility pages currently list specific times:

The Hazeldean, Irene, Sandton and Tyger Valley facility pages show business hours for their medical centres but no visiting hours for their rehabilitation hospitals. Business hours are not visiting hours, so phone these facilities for current visiting times.

Day hospitals and medical centres

Intercare day hospitals carry out procedures that do not require an overnight stay, with same-day discharge, and no visiting hours are published for them. Medical and dental centres are consultation practices, not wards. If you are collecting someone after a day procedure, ask the day hospital when to arrive.

ICU, Maternity & Special Unit Visits

Intercare’s service pages do not list an ICU, maternity ward, labour ward or neonatal unit at any of its facilities. For those units, see our ICU visiting hours guide or maternity ward visiting guide.

Intercare Medfem Hospital

Intercare Medfem Hospital is a 21-bed women’s health hospital offering gynaecology, fertility treatment and cosmetic surgery, working with the Medfem Fertility Clinic. It is not listed as a maternity or birthing hospital, and no visiting hours are published. Contact the hospital directly.

Rehabilitation and sub-acute care

Intercare Newlands describes itself as providing acute and sub-acute rehabilitation. Intercare’s rehabilitation FAQ says family members are encouraged to take part in therapy sessions, that care training is given to families or caregivers before discharge, and that progress updates come from the doctor, unit manager, shift leaders and rehabilitation team.

Weekend & Public Holiday Visiting

The Newlands and Somerset West visiting hours (11:00–20:00) are listed without separate weekday, weekend or public holiday times, and no Intercare page says they change on those days. Confirm with the facility before a weekend or public holiday visit. Medical centre weekend and public holiday hours are consulting hours, not visiting hours. No inpatient or day hospital services are listed for Intercare facilities in these four provinces.

Visitor Rules

• At Newlands and Somerset West, a maximum of two visitors per patient.
• Therapy and medical procedures take priority over visits at the rehabilitation hospitals, so you may be asked to wait or come back later.
• Agree on a family spokesperson who can receive progress feedback from the care team.

How to Confirm Current Visiting Hours

• Open the facility’s page on the Intercare facility finder and look for a “Visiting Hours” entry under the contact details.
• If none is shown, phone the facility and ask specifically for rehabilitation hospital visiting hours, not medical centre business hours.
• Ask whether visiting times differ on weekends and public holidays and how many visitors may attend at once.
