Life hospital visiting hours are published hospital by hospital, and usually ward by ward, on the Life Healthcare website. There is no single timetable for the group: a general ward at one Life hospital can open at 11:00 while another only opens at 15:00. Choose a Life Healthcare hospital to see facility-specific visiting information. Know the patient’s ward or unit, because ICU, maternity and paediatric times often differ from general wards.

Search by hospital name or town. Several Life hospitals are named after a suburb or region rather than the town: Life Bay View Private Hospital is in Mossel Bay, Life West Coast Private Hospital is in Vredenburg, Life Cosmos Hospital is in eMalahleni (Witbank) and Life Peglerae Hospital is in Rustenburg. General Visitor Policy

There is no single set of Life Healthcare visiting hours. The group’s admission page asks visitors to keep to each hospital’s scheduled visiting hours so patients can rest, and links to the visiting hours on each hospital page. Most Life hospital pages we checked limit visitors to two per patient at a time. The times themselves vary, as these examples show:

ICU, Maternity & Special Unit Visits

ICU and high care

Life ICU rules are stricter than ward rules. Life Wilgers and Life Carstenhof allow two family members per patient and no children under 12 in ICU and high care. Life Beacon Bay limits ICU to two visitors from immediate family. Life Brenthurst allows one visitor per patient in its adult ICU unless arranged with the unit manager. Maternity

Birth partners usually get longer hours in Life maternity units. Life Wilgers allows birthing partners from 09:00–20:00, Life Kingsbury allows the husband or partner from 08:00–20:00 with a recommended rest from 13:00–14:00, and Life West Coast Private Hospital lists 10:00–22:00 for fathers, partners and siblings. Paediatrics, NICU and mental health

Many Life pages say to contact the hospital directly about visiting exceptions in neonatal ICU and paediatric wards. Where times are listed, one parent can often stay with a child: Life Wilgers and Life Carstenhof permit one parent to sleep in. Life Kingsbury lists open NICU visiting for parents, and Life The Glynnwood lists set NICU slots for parents. Life mental health and rehabilitation facilities use shorter schedules, for example Life Poortview (Wednesdays 16:00–18:00, weekends 13:00–16:00). See our NICU visiting hours guide.

Weekend & Public Holiday Visiting

Most Life acute hospital pages list one daily schedule with no separate weekend times, but some differ. Life Cosmos Hospital lists 15:00–16:00 and 19:00–20:00 on weekdays, and adds 10:30–11:00 on weekends and public holidays. Life Chatsmed Garden Hospital’s general wards open 15:00–16:15 and 19:15–20:00 on weekdays, but 14:00–16:00 on weekends and public holidays. Visitor Rules

Life Healthcare’s admission and infection prevention pages set these group-level rules:

  • Visitors are not allowed during doctors’ rounds and will be asked to leave the ward.
  • Nursing staff cannot share information about a patient’s condition or treatment. Family can make an appointment at the doctor’s rooms, and one family member should act as spokesperson if the patient cannot speak for themselves.
  • Firearms are not allowed on hospital premises, and the facilities are no-smoking zones.
  • All visitors should practise good hand hygiene and follow precautions around isolated patients.

Individual hospitals add their own rules. Most pages we checked allow two visitors per patient at a time, and many do not allow children under 12 in ICU, paediatric or maternity units. For a full checklist, see our hospital visitor rules guide.

How to Confirm Current Visiting Hours

  • Open the hospital’s page on lifehealthcare.co.za and scroll to “Visiting hours” under the contact details. This is the most reliable place to check Life visiting hours.
  • Look for dated wording. Some Life pages still mention COVID-19 restrictions, while Life Anncron Hospital says its times were updated from 1 December 2025.
  • Phone the hospital if no times are shown. Life St James Hospital and Life St Marks Clinic say times are subject to change and ask visitors to contact the hospital, and some day and specialist facility pages list no times.
  • Arrange special visits with the unit manager, for example for critically ill patients, as several Life pages advise.
